Goa Polls: Campaigning in full swing

In Goa, campaigning for the assembly elections in full swing. Polling will be held on Saturday. The election rallies of the prominent leaders of various political parties are being held in various constituencies. The main contest in the Goa Assembly Elections this time would be between the ruling Congress and Nationalist Congress Party alliance and the Bharatiya Janata Party and Maharshtrawadi Gomantak Party combine. There are 215 candidates in fray for total 40 seats locked mostly in the multi-cornered contests. These also include 74 independents and nine women.Congress party has fielded maximum 33 candidates while the BJP has fielded 28 along with Trinamool Congress, which is making maiden foray into the state elections, nominating 20 candidates.The other party candidates include Goa Vikas Party with eight, MGP , UGDP and NCP with seven candidates each along with Samajwadi Janata Party (Rashtriya), Janata Dal (United) and Samajwadi Party with five candidates each. The CPI and CPM, the two parties, which are fighting the electoral battle in a combined manner, have also fielded five candidates together.
