Bowing to wide spread criticism, Goa Government today decided to withdraw the state sponsored six MLA’s visit to Brazil to witness FIFA World cup 2014.
Goa Sports Minister Ramesh Tavadkar officially announced that after discussing the issue with Chief Minister, the state Government is scrapping their tour. Mr. Ramesh Tavadkar also withdrew his name from the trip. Now, the MLAs have decided to keep the trip personal and it will be funded at their own expense.
The Brazil visit of the six MLAs, including Ministers Ramesh Tawadkar, Avertano Furtado and Milind Naik sparked a controversy after the state sports department sanctioned 89 lakh rupees for the tour.
The Opposition and civil society has come down heavily on the state Government decision to permit six ruling party legislators, to go on a junket to Brazil to see FIFA World Cup matches at public expense.
