Goa is celebrating the golden jubilee of its liberation today. Several functions are being held all over the state to mark the occasion. The main state level function was held this morning at the Campal Parade ground in Panaji where the Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat unfurled the national tricolor and reviewed the parade.Addressing the people of the state, Chief Minister said his government contemplates to carve out a third district in addition to the north and south district. He announced that the group C and D employees and the pensioners of the state government will get a one time bonus of 5000 rupees soon. The Chief Minister paid rich tributes to those who lost their lives in the struggle for Goa's freedom. Mr. Kamat took stock of the advancements made by the state after liberation in all the fields and called upon the people to work unitedly to make Goa a model state in the country.The Governor of Goa, Mr. K. Sankaranarayanan will host a reception in the evening at Raj Bhawan in Dona Paula near Panaji for politicians, Indian and foreign diplomats, dignitaries, celebrities, freedom fighters and members of the media.The Governor, Mr. K. Sankaranarayanan, the Chief Minister, Mr. Digambar Kamat, the Archbishop- Patriarch of Goa and Daman, Rev. Felip Neri Ferrao, the Sikkim Governor, Mr. B.P. Singh have greeted the people of the state on the occasion.It was on 19th December, 1961, Goa was liberated from the Portuguese regime of 450 years.
