Indian Infrastructure company GMR has sought a compensation of over 800 million dollars from Maldives for the termination of its airport deal, but Male is insisting on a forensic audit as it feels that the actual amount will be less than half.
GMR (Airports) CFO Siddhartha Kapur said that the company has sent a letter to the Maldivian government in this regard. He said this is our initial estimate and the final figure will be based upon various calculations and loss of profit among others.
Asked if GMR is open to a forensic audit, Mr. Kapur said the concession agreement signed with Maldives government does not have the clause of forensic audit. He, however, said that the company does not have any objection to an audit but it has to come through proper legal process.
The 500 million dollar Airport contract awarded to GMR for modernising and operating Male Airport was unilaterally terminated by the incumbent Maldivian government on the 27th of last month.
