GM expects to shed ten thousand jobs in its factories in Europe

The American car maker, General Motors, has announced that it expects to shed ten thousand jobs in its factories in Europe. The announcement comes after GM pulled out of the deal to sell its European subsidiaries to the Canadian car firm, Magna. GM owns Opel in Germany and Vauxhall in Britain. General Motors says, it wants to slash costs by 30 per cent at Wauxhall and Opel which will involve cutting around ten thousand jobs. German car workers fear the job cuts will be affected in their country with the possible closure of two factories there. The German Unions have called for industrial action and urged GM workers across Europe to join the protest on Friday.
