The global fund to fight Aids, Tuberculosis and malaria says it suspending aid to Zambia's government because it worries over corruption. It says the government had failed to provide assurances that it was taking action over fraud affecting the fund's aid programme. About 140 million dollars will now be channeled through other organisations.The Global Fund said the authorities in Zambia have been unable to provide assurances that they were taking appropriate action against fraud affecting the Fund's programmes. The suspension of millions of dollars worth of health assistance will be a big blow to the country that dependent on aid and badly affected by diseases. This is not the first time the Global fund had suspended the system to Africa it took similar action against Uganda five years ago to what it described as a serious mismanagement of its funds.
