The Karnataka Agriculture Minister Umesh Katti has informed that Global Agro Investors Meet will be held in October-end or November second week. Speaking to the media persons in Bangalore today, he informed that one lakh crore rupees investment is expected to flow into agro sector in the meet. He further disclosed that a few food processing and mechanized farming companies along with export firms have evinced interest to invest around Rs.55,000 crore in the state till now. The exact date of the meet will be announced within a week after consultations with the Chief Minister. The minister expressed happiness over improvement in the growth rate of the Agriculture sector last year. He informed that the state recorded 140 lakh tonne of food grain production last year as compared to 128 lakh crore tonne in the previous year. Informing about Suvarna Bhoomi programme that was announced in the budget, minister informed that applications are being invited from small and marginal farmers and by May end, a sum of Rs.5000 will be deposited in the banks of those chosen under the scheme for taking up value addition measures in their farm. Totally 10 lakh small farmers growing areca nut, coconut, oil seeds, pulses, fruits, and cotton will benefit from this. Reacting to a question that opposition leaders have accused him of spending only 40 per cent of allocated money over agriculture last year, the minister retorted that till March end 80 per cent of funds were utilised.
