In West Bengal, the Gorkha Janmukhti Morcha has called an indefinite Darjeeling Hill bandh from Sunday afternoon, demanding return of Nicol Tamang live into the police custody, who escapted from police custody this morning from pintal village near Siliguri in Darjeeling district. The Morcha, however, allowed all the vehicles to run till 6 on Sunday evening. Addressing a press conference in Darjeeling this evening, the Morcha's General Secretary, Mr. Roshan Giri alleged the West Bengal government and police administration for hatching the conspiracy in the escape of Nicol Tamang and murder of Gorkha League leader, late Madan Tamang. Meanwhile, two policemen, including a Sub-Inspector, were suspended in connection with the fleeing of Nicole Tamang.The normal life in three hill subdivision, Darjeeling, Kurseong and in Kalinpong of Darjeeling district paralysed from this afternoon following indefinite Darjeeling Hill bandh, called by Gorkha Janmukhti Morcha, demanding to bring back escaped Nicol Tamang live into police custody. The morcha has given 24 hours ultimatum to police administration to bring back Nicol under police custody. Also marker and business establishments started pulling down their shuttes since afternoon throwing normal life into griding halt. The Morcha, however, among to keep open National Highway-31 A linking Sikkim with rest of the country and Cincona and tea plantation industries in Darjeeling Hill during the bandh area. The bandh so far is peaceful and there is no report of any untoward incident. Elaborate security arrangements have been made in view of the on-going bandh.
