GJM suspends its proposed two-day bandh

The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha has suspended its proposed two-day bandh from Monday in the Darjeeling hills. The Morcha General Secretary Roshan Giri said the decision was taken in deference to a call from Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and senior BJP leader L K Advani. He said they had asked them to wait for the outcome of the tripartite talks. He said Christmas is also approaching. Roshan Giri said that the Morcha delegation led by party president Bimal Gurung also met Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi. He said they had extensively explained their stand to him. Asked about the recent revival of the demand for Gorkhaland, Giri said so many rounds of talks have taken place. He said they want an interim council to materialise soon.
