In West Bengal, the Gorkha Jana Mukti Morcha announced a 48 hours relaxation in its indefinite Darjeeling hill bandh from Wednesday morning for two days. The bandh was called by the Morcha to protest against alleged lathi charge on Morcha supporters near Kurseong police station on the 16th of this month. Large number of people thronged to the markets to purchase their essential needs.

The shortage of cooking gas and green vegetables persists in the markets. This is due to both bandh and the closer of main road 55 National Highway linking Darjeeling with rest of the country. The small vehicles are plying through two alternative routes via Rohini and Pankhabari roads to reach Darjeeling.
