Girija Vyas advocates for stringent law to check sexual harassment of women

The Chairperson of National Women Commission Dr. Girija Vyas has advocated for stringent law to check sexual harassment of women in the work places. Delivering the Dr. Rajendra Prasad Memorial Lecture organized by All India Radio on Women Empowerment in Independent India in New Delhi today, she said that National Women Commission has already sent its recommendations to the government in this regard. She said that though there are enough laws and constitutional rights for empowerment of women they are not able to provide enough safety to women in our society.Dr. Vyas said that crime rate on rape, kidnapping, sexual harassment and exploitation of women is on the increase even after 60 years of Independence. She said that political empowerment and economic independence are necessary for her social upliftment. She also emphasised the need for awareness among the women and preparedness to fight injustice in the society at all levels. The CEO Prasara Bharati Mr. B. S. Lalli and the Director General, All India Radio, Ms. Noreen Naqvi were also present on the occasion. The full lecture will be broadcast on the birth anniversary of Dr. Rajendra Prasad on 3rd December on Indraprastha Channel of All India Radio at 9.30 PM.
