In Tamil Nadu, senior IAS officer Girija Vaidyanathan has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary, replacing P.Rama Mohana Rao from the post, whose residence and the properties of his close associates were raided by the Income Tax authorities.

An order from the state government said Girija Vaidyanathan would also hold additional charges as the Vigilance Commissioner and Commissioner for Administrative Reforms.

Mr Rao ascended to the top most position in the state official hierarchy last June, after the AIADMK came to power for the second consecutive term.

At that time, many raised their eyebrows as his elevation was made by superseding many others. Today's transfer order does not mention anything about his new posting. Ms Girija Vaidyanathan has served the state administration in various capacities for long.
