Gill calls for more incentives for sportspersons

Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Dr. M.S. Gill today called for more incentives for sportspersons seeking admission in various educational institutions of the country. Inaugurating the rugby stadium in Delhi University, he stressed on the need to develop sports culture for the overall development of the youth. Mr. Gill said that academic performance should not be the sole parameter for college admissions. Describing the stadium as an asset to the University, he expressed hope that the complex will be put to a judicious use even after the Commonwealth Games. Speaking on the occasion, Delhi Chief Minister, Mrs. Shiela Dixit, described the inauguration as a golden-letter day in the history of the University. Backing the claims made by CPWD, she expressed hope that all the stadia for the Commonwealth Games will be completed in time. The sports complex, constructed at a cost of over 306 crore Rupees, will host the rugby events in the forthcoming Games. The stadium, with a seating capacity of 10,000 persons is spread over an area of 10,000 square meters and boasts of world-class infrastructure like the state-of-the-art underground drainage system.
