Ghulam Ali's concert cancelled following Sena's opposition

The concert of renowned Pakistani ghazal singer Ghulam Ali, scheduled for tomorrow in Mumbai, has been cancelled in view of the stiff opposition from Shiv Sena. Even as the Maharashtra government guaranteed full protection to Ali, the organisers decided to cancel his performance, after meeting Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray last evening.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, event organiser Randhir Roy said, Ghulam Ali's programme has been cancelled, and neither he nor any other Pakistani artiste will be performing at the event.

Earlier in the day, Shiv Sena had written to the organisers saying that they should cancel the performances of all Pakistani artists until the neighbouring country refuses to curb terrorism. The letter said, their opposition is not just to Ghulam Ali but for all Pakistani artistes who gain commercially while widows of Indian jawans killed on the border mourn their loss.

Minister of State for Home Ranjeet Patil had assured that action will be taken against anybody who tries to take law into their hands.
