Inaugurating the 5th meeting of the Heads of National Drug Law enforcement Agencies at Agra, Finance secretary R S Gujral reaffirmed India’s commitment to fight drug trafficking and its proliferation at the cost of the health and safety of the global community.
He said India has been working consistently to strengthen its legal framework in compliance with international standards set by the U N Convention against transnational crime and international drug control conventions. He also expressed concern over reports of increase in the area under opium cultivation in Afghanistan. He said the forces of law and order
have to work together and keep ahead of the traffickers.
Mr. Gujaral emphasized the need for better coordination among member countries of the region and asked drug law enforcement authorities to become smarter and better equipped.
