German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle has said he will refuse to attend next month's conference on Afghanistan at London if its agenda is limited to discussing a troop surge. In an interview to a German magazine, the minister demanded a broad political approach and an overall strategy for the Afghanistan conflict. He added that it was healthy that German voters were unenthusiastic about sending German troops abroad, saying if it were the other way round, he would be worried. His remarks came only a day after the German defence minister said he favoured a withdrawal timetable for their troops from Afghanistan. Germany has dragged its feet in wake of calls from US President Barack Obama to help with a push to defeat the Taliban. US President has announced for 30 thousand extra troops while NATO commanders maintain time is running out fast to reverse the growing Taliban-led militancy. Many European nations including Germany and France are opposed to sending extra troops to Afghanistan amidst diminishing public support for the war.
