The leaders of Germany and France pledged support for the Paris climate accord. Addressing a UN conference in Boon, Germany yesterday, French President Emanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel called for all members to steadily implement the Paris agreement, an international framework to counter global warming beyond 2020. <br/><br/>During the meeting, Macron pledged an all-out effort to put the deal into action. He said that Europe should make up the shortfall in funding left by the US decision to pull out. Merkel also called on countries to cooperate to implement the Paris agreement, saying that the adoption of the agreement 2 years ago is just the beginning and there is still a lot of work to do. <br/><br/><br/>At the meeting, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said financial assistance from developed countries is essential to minimize damage by abnormal weather on developing countries. More than 190 countries and territories have been negotiating to work out rules of the Paris agreement.<br/>US President Donald Trump had announced his country's withdrawal from the accord. The United States also decided to hold back contributions of over 2.3 million US dollars for the UN's scientific expert panel.The panel studies climate change and provides guidance to governments around the world.
