General V.K Singh assumes office as New Army chief

The New Army Chief General Vijay Kumar Singh today exuded confidence that Indian security forces are capable enough to take on any challenge directed against the country. Talking about his future plans, he said that training methodology for the armed forces will become more practical and professionalism will get a boost. On corruption, General Singh said that there is a need to take care of the internal health of the army. He was talking to newsmen in New Delhi after formally assuming the charge of the Chief of Staff.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports, General V K Singh is the 26 Chief of Army and belong to Rajput Regiment. He was commissioned into the army in 1970. He participated in various army campaigns including 1971 Bangladesh liberation war, operation prakaram on Jammu and Kashmir LoC and operation pawan against LTTE in Sri Lanka. General Singh is a well decorated Gorrilla warfare expert. <br/><br/>New Army chief General V K Singh today said that he will focus attention on measures to weed out corruption from the force. Just before assuming office as the 26th chief of the Indian Army in New Delhi, Gen Singh told reporters that Army’s core values, ethos and tradition will receive due attention during his tenure.
