Gene therapy for depression

A latest study conducted in US points to possible gene therapy for depression. Researchers at Cornell Medical College in Washington have identified a gene that can cause symptoms of major depression. They said in a statement that to counteract the effects of the gene, they have a novel gene therapy which may be used to target the gene. According to the World Health Organization, depression affects about 121 million people worldwide. It is the main factor in suicide and at least 27 million Americans take antidepressant drugs. The causes are complex and different patients respond todifferent treatments.
