Gene that regulates consumption of alcohol in humans identified

An international group of Scientists have identified a gene that regulates the consumption of alcohol in humans. This comes as a break through discovery when about 2.5 million deaths are reported by WHO globally due to alcoholism In a study of more than 47,000 people, found that people with a rarer version of the gene AUTS 2 consume on an average 5 percent less alcohol than common. Paul Elliott of Imperial College London, who was part of the team conducting the study said that, the difference this particular gene makes is only small, but by finding it they have opened up a new area of research.
