GDP growth in current fiscal will be 8.5 percent, says Pranab

The Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee has said that GDP growth in the current fiscal will be 8.5 percent. Addressing a financial inclusion Summit in New Delhi on Monday Mr. Mukherjee said that though he would like to go by IMF prediction of 9.4 percent growth, however, he would limit himself to 8.5 percent plus growth. Expressing anxiety on eurozone recession, he expressed apprehensions about its impact on Indian economy. Asking the banks to create a replicable model for financial inclusion of the common man across the country, the Finance Minister reiterated that government is committed to provide enabling environment to banks to protect the consumers who are poor and marginalised. Urging active participation of private sector for an active participation, Mr. Mukherjee said that they have an important role to play in reaching to the bottom of the pyramid and share the benefit of technology in uplifting their lives.
