Foreign Ministers Gulf Cooperation Council have welcomed the re-launch of direct Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. In a statement, after a meeting in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, the six ministers warned that continuing acts of alleged aggression by Israel could undermine efforts to restore peace and stability in the region. The ministerial council expressed the hope that the talks will lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with east Jerusalem as its capital.Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas resumed direct negotiations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington on 2nd of this month.The foreign ministers expressed the hope that Iran would cooperate with diplomatic efforts to allay suspicions about its intentions. The Gulf ministers said they are following developments in the standoff over its controversial nuclear programme with deep concern. The statement added that GCC supports the right of countries in the region to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes under the standards set by the International Atomic Energy Agency and called on Israel, which has the region's sole if undeclared nuclear arsenal, to apply those standards as well.The GCC consist of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

GCC welcomes rsumption of Israeli-Palestine talks
