GCC calls for power transfer in Yemen

The Gulf Cooperation council (GCC) has said that Yemen’s President Ali Abdullah Saleh should hand over power to his vice-president and allow the opposition to lead a transitional government. In a statement after talks of GCC foreign ministers in the Saudi capital Riyadh, the GCC said that Saleh’s government and the opposition will meet in Saudi Arabia to discuss Yemen’s ‘unity, security and stability’. The GCC meeting was chaired by UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash. Meanwhile, tens of thousands of protesters seeking the ouster of Saleh marched in Sanaa on Sunday.
