Gap between demand & supply of power during current year is less than 1 %: Govt

<span style="color: #222222;">Government today said that the gap between demand and supply of power during the current year is less than one per cent. Power Minister R K Singh said this in a written reply in Lok Sabha. He said, the installed generation capacity is around three lakh 64 thousand 960 mega watt, which is sufficient to meet the electricity demand in the country. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Mr Singh said, to meet the shortfall, if any in the power requirement, distribution company can also purchase power from power exchanges on a daily basis. He said, Centre is supporting the States and Union Territories in augmenting and strengthening the inter-state transmission and distribution network through various schemes including Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana and Integrated Power Development Scheme.</span><br />''  <br />
