Gangrape case: Govt expresses grief at unfortunate turned violent incidents

The government on Wednesday expressed grief at the unfortunate turn of events following the gangrape incident in Delhi and the protests that turned violent. Briefing newsmen in New Delhi, Finance Minsiter P. Chidambaram said, it was sad that a Police constable, Subash Tomar lost his life while performing his duty during the protests.
Information and Broadcasting Minster Manish Tewari said, an inquiry is on and the government is looking into all aspects of the incidents. He also said, measures are being taken to ensure safety to women in Delhi and other parts of the country. Mr. Tewari said, the one member Commission of inquiry under Justice Usha Mehra will also fix responsibility for any lapses on the part of authorities.
Mr. Tewari also regretted the hardships faced by media persons due to use of of water canons by the police to disperse the crowd. He said, the police have been given instructions not to obtruct media persons in the discharge of their duties.
