Gandhinagar electing its first ever civic body today

State Capital of Gujarat, Gandhinagar is electing its first ever civic body today. The 33-seat newly created Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation with 1.35 lakh voters is the smallest in the state. BJP and Congress are fighting for all seats. About 670 voters are registered to exercise their right to vote online. Quoting state Election Commission, AIR Ahmedabad correspondent reports that out of 670 online voters, maximum 146 voters will vote online for ward number 11. Eleven seats have been reserved for women. Total 171 election booths have been set up. Officials said that apart from Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, the by-elections for the 39 seats in 11 Nagar Palikas are also held today. AIR correspondent adds that Gandhinagar would become eighth Municipal Corporation of the state after the creation of new civic body.
