He considered them to be the most courageous fighters for Indian Independence as well as social reformation. Gandhiji was one of the few freedom figters who encouraged women's active participation in the freedom struggle.<br />” <br />”Through his political and social movements, his continuous effort was to awaken the power of women and help them shed their deep-rooted sense of inferiority and rise to dignity and self- esteem. Gandhiji had said, there is no occasion for women to consider themselves subordinate or inferior to men. It was through his persistent efforts that women were attracted to his ideas and deeds and joined the freedom struggle in large number.<br />” <br />”While people only know of prominent leaders like Sarojini Naidu, Lakshmi Menon, Sushila Nayyar and Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, there were thousands of unsung and unnoticed heroines of India who learnt the meaning of liberation from him and contributed with all their energy to the struggle for independence.<br />
