Games on head, MCD launches anti-dengue drive

A week-long sanitation-cum-cleanliness drive is being launched to control mosquito breeding and spread of dengue in the national capital. The drive will be organised by Municipal Corporation of Delhi from September 6 to 12. Municipal Commissioner K S Mehra said that all departments would participate in removal of garbage, construction waste and water receptacles which are potential breeding place for Aedes mosquito which spreads dengue. Emphasising on the need for community participation, Mehra said Residents Welfare Associations, Market Associations, Parents-Teachers Associations, students and other social welfare groups will be made part of the campaign. He directed the public health officials to initiate intensive anti-larval and fogging activities in the areas cleaned during the sanitation-cum-cleanliness drive to keep control on the spread of disease.Dengue cases have been on a rise in the city with good monsoon and massive construction activity providing favourable breeding ground for the mosquitoes.Three people have died due to dengue so far. Seventy four fresh cases of dengue were reported yesterday taking the total number of confirmed dengue cases to 1155.
