Defeated Gambian President Yahya Jammeh has agreed to relinquish power and leave the country. In an announcement on state Television, he said it is not necessary that a single drop of blood be shed. Jammeh's decision came after Guinean President and Mauritania's President convinced him to cede power and leave the country or face military action.<br/><br/>The new President, Adama Barrow, took the oath of office on Thursday at the Gambian embassy in neighboring Senegal after not being able to be sworn in at the Gambian capital. Troops from several West African nations, including Senegal, have been deployed in the Gambia, threatening to drive Jammeh out of office if he did not agree to go.<br/><br/>Jammeh had at first accepted defeat in the election but then reversed his position and said he would not step down. He declared a 90-day state of emergency, blaming irregularities in the electoral process.
