The first meeting of the newly appointed FTII Society and the Governing Council was held in the Institute premises in Pune today. <br/><br/>Members of the FTII Society including the President Mr. Gajendra Chauhan, Additional Secretary & Financial Advisor Dr Subhash Sharma, film Director Rajkumar Hirani, Producer-Director B. P. Singh, actors Satish Shah and Rahul Solapurkar, Joint Secretary (Films) Sanjay Murthy attended the meeting. Ms Anagha Ghaisas, Narendra Pathak, film critic Ms Bhawana Somaiyya, Urmil Thapliyal, Pranjal Saikia and others were present at the meeting. Among the ex-officio members DG Films Division Mukesh Sharma, Director FTII Prashant Pathrabe, OSD Ministry of I & B Chaitanya Prasad, CEO, Children's Films Society Shravan Kumar, Director SRFTII Sanjay Pattnayak were present at the meeting.<br/><br/>B.P Singh was elected as the Vice-President of the FTII Society. The Society also decided to nominate Rajkumar Hirani, B. P. Singh, Satish Shah, Pranjal Saikia, Narendra Pathak and Bhawana Somaiyya to the Governing Council. The first meeting of the newly constituted Governing Council (GC) was also held today. Noted Producer-Director B. P. Singh was elected as the Vice Chairman of the Governing Council. It was also decided to nominate the Vice Chairman of the GC as the Chairman of the Academic Council. An alumnus of FTII, Shri Brijendra Pal Singh is well known for the Indian television serial 'CID'.<br/><br/>The GC also approved the Annual Report and Statement of Accounts of the Institute for 2013-14 & 2014-15. The Revised Estimates for 2015-2016 and Budget Estimates for 2016-17 were also sanctioned at the meeting. Meanwhile, new Chairperson Gajendra Chauhan arrived at the Institute premises for his first visit to the premier institution and was accorded a warm reception by the Staff, Administration and Faculty members. Speaking to the Staff members Chauhan said he would do his best to solve the problems of the institution including the longstanding demand of pension for the staff.<br/><br/>Earlier students who had already planned a protest gathered in the campus one hour before arrival of Gajendra Chauhan and started giving slogans though the notices were issued to them by the police warning them of cancellation of bail in case of any protest. Police intervened and detained 40 students including their leaders who led 139 days strike against appointment of new chairman and FTII society. which was called off in the month of October. Remaining students were silently waiting in the FTII premises and started giving slogens as soon as Gajendra Chauhan arrived in campus along with society members.
