GAGAN navigation system by June next year

The satellite based navigation system GAGAN for air traffic control will be implemented in India by June next year. This was stated by Mr. V Somasundaram, Member (ANS), Airports Authority of India. Speaking on the inaugural function of commissioning of ATS Automation System at Tiruchirapalli airport on Sunday, he said that India will become fourth nation after the US, Europe and Japan to have such a system.

With this new ATS automation system developed by Indras of Spain, human intervention will be minimized in the control of air traffic. Apart from major metros like Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai ATS, automation is being implemented in 38 smaller airports all over India. He said that India will soon reach the fourth position in the world in air traffic growth.
