Gagan Narang wins gold, Bindra silver in 10 m air rifle

On the third day of the commonwealth games, ace rifle shooter Gagan Narang piped compatriot Abhinav Bindra to clinch the Gold in the men's 10m individual air rifle event at the Dr Karni Singh Range in New Delhi on Wednesday morning.Olympic champion Bindra had to be content with a silver while this was Gagan's second and India's third Gold in the shooting competition of the 19th Commonwealth Games.Earlier in the day, Gagan shot a perfect 600 to equal his own world record in men's 10m individual air rifle qualification.Shooters got the first medal for the host winning a silver in the pairs double trap event. Asher Noria and Ronjan Sodhi bagged the second spot in the event.Indian wrestlers had mixed fortune in wrestling. Two wrestlers qualified for the finals and two others losing in the seminfinals in the Greco Roman category. Rajendarkumar in 55 kg and Manoj kumar in the 84 kg reached the finals.However, there was disappointment as India's Dharmender Dalal lost in the 120 kg Greco Roman wrestling semi-finals. In 66kg, Sunil kumar will fight for the bronze.In tennis, Top seed Somdev Devvarman beat Amresh Jayawickreme of Srilanka in a one sided match 6-0. 6-1 to enter the quarterfinals of the Men's singles. Sania Mirza also entered the quarterfinals in the women' singles.In Badminton, India blanked Wales 5-0 in the mixed team events. There are 28 Gold medals at stake on Wednesday, the maximum 9 coming from swimming followed by 4 each in Cycling ,Wrestling and Shooting.Two gold medals each are on the platter in Gymnastics and Weightlifting. The track and field events in athletics begins on Wednesday.Australia leads the medal tally with 9 golds while Hosts India are in second place with 6 golds
