G8 announces economic initiative for Pakistan-Afghanistan

G-8 Foreign Ministers have agreed on economic initiative for the Pakistan-Afghanistan border region. This has been announced by Canadian Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon while opening a two-day meeting of the Foreign Ministers of G-8 countries near Ottawa yesterday. He said the stability in the region is imperative for global security. The Canadian Foreign Minister said the objective of the Pakistan-Afghanistan economic plan is to bolster commercial activity in the border areas. He said the plan has been prepared in consultation with the governments of Pakistan, Afghanistan, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. The two-day meeting attended by Foreign Ministers of the United States, Russia, Britain, Canada, Germany, France, Italy and Japan is discussing nuclear proliferation, terrorism and regional conflicts.
