G7 leaders warn Russia of fresh sanctions over Ukraine

Leaders of the G-7 industrial nations meeting in Brussels say they are prepared to impose further sanctions on Russia over its actions in Ukraine. A joint statement condemned Moscow for its continuing violation of Ukraine's sovereignty. The G-7 summit is the first since Russia was expelled from the group following its annexation of Crimea in March. The leaders are set to discuss the global economic outlook, climate change and development issues.Meanwhile, Putin on Wednesday reached out to the West saying he was ready to meet Ukraine's president-elect, Petro Poroshenko. The Russian president also signalled his willingness to sit down with US President Barack Obama, but dismissed claims of military intervention in Ukraine.US President Barack Obama has warned Russia that the G7 nations are ready to impose additional sanctions over its actions in Ukraine. Although Russian President Vladimir Putin is not at the Brussels summit, he will hold face-to-face talks with some G7 leaders not including President Obama in Paris afterwards.
