Ahead of the Prime Ministers address to the UN General Assembly, India and three other members of G-4 will meet in New York to further their common goal of reforms in the Security Council, UNSC. Foreign ministers of India, Brazil, Japan and Germany who are pushing and supporting each other's permanent membership in the expanded UNSC, will review the progress of their outreach process kick-started in February this year. Official sources said that India will continue its efforts for reform of the UN with a view to creating an equitable system that is reflective of contemporary realities.The G4 meet comes a month after the director generals from the four countries had met in Japan, where they had extensive discussion to take stock of their bid's progress. Joint secretary UN Affairs Pavan Kapoor said that the foreign ministers of the four countries will collectively decide on the steps to be taken. India is strong supporter of a robust UN role in maintenance of international peace and security, including through its peacekeeping operations and political processes. As New York is buzzing with activity with high segment of the meeting to begin from Wednesday, the role of India is being keenly watched. The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is likely to share his approach on dealing with the present economic crises, besides advocating for joint international action against terrorism which has emerged as a great threat to world peace security. New Delhi is keen to put across its case strongly along with three other nations to be the members of the reformed UN Security council, reflecting present day realities. With large contingents of the UN member states in New York adding some warmth to pleasant weather, Most of the countries are eagerly waiting to listen to the prescription from Dr. Manmohan Singh on how to deal with the present economic crises.
