G20 Foreign Ministers meeting held in Delhi discussed challenges of Russia and Ukraine issues

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on Thursday said the G20 Foreign Ministers meeting held in New Delhi on Thursday discussed the challenges of Russia and Ukraine issues. Briefing media in New Delhi this afternoon, Dr Jaishankar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi advised everyone to realise what unites and divides the countries. Dr Jaishankar said the meetings today were affected by geopolitical tensions. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave forthright advice and strong guidance on what the Foreign Ministers should do at the meeting. Mr Modi said, it is important to give voice to Global South because the world was seeing these countries actually regressing in terms of unsustainable debt and global warming.<br />''<br />''The External Affairs Minister said that if there were perfect meetings of minds on all issues, the Outcome Document would have been a collective statement. He said there were issues on which there were divergences and there were differences on the Ukraine issues which could not be reconciled. He said the Ukraine issue is impacting Global South. He stated that India has been saying very strongly for a year that this is a make-or-break issue for much of the Global South. He added that the costs of fuel, food and availability of fertiliser are extremely pressing issues.<br />''<br />''The External Affairs Minister noted that for the first time, G20 Foreign Ministers discussed the topic of counter-narcotics and called for inclusive and strong international cooperation in this regard.<br />''<br />''Dr Jaishankar said all the G20 countries participated in the meeting. There were 13 international organisations that were represented at the meeting. He said Foreign Ministers of 27 countries were present in the event, apart from India the chair. He added that South Korea and Japan were represented at the Minister of State level. He said, this is the largest gathering of Foreign Ministers hosted by the G20 Presidency.<br />
