At the G20 Digital Economy Working Group meeting in Hyderabad yesterday, experts from various fields deliberated on high-speed mobile broadband and its impact on society, digital inclusion and sustainable green digital infrastructure- challenges and opportunities. As part of the meeting, the Department of Telecommunications organised three thematic sessions.
The panel on High-Speed Mobile Broadband and its Impact, discussed the last mile of high-speed connectivity, digital services in areas, such as education, health and agriculture. It also discussed taking extra measures to fill gaps in terms of access to mobile Internet, smartphones and providing assistance to senior citizens and people in rural areas.
Discussions on 'Digital Inclusion – Connecting the Unconnected' emphasised connecting people with the planet for digital transformation. Important aspects, such as access, adoption, value creation, speed, affordability, infrastructure and digital skilling were also discussed.
Discussions on 'Sustainable Green Digital Infrastructure: Challenges and Opportunities' saw lengthy discussions, especially on digital infrastructure going green, sustainable development goals, reduced carbon footprint, renewable energy, reconditioning, recycling and efficient digital transformation.
