G-20 Summit: PM Modi outlines India's plans to contribute to mitigate climate change

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has joined World leaders in condemning terrorism and has outlined India's plans to contribute to mitigate climate change. Addressing the working lunch session on climate in the G20 summit at Antalya ?n Turkey this afternoon, he said terrorism calls for a comprehensive global response and urged that combating it must be major priority for G20.<br/> <br/>AIR correspondent reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address at the G20 session on development and climate change gave a broad outline of India's plans to contribute to the global efforts to control climate change, apart from joining the world's leaders including US President Barack Obama and UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon in unequivocally condemning terror?sm. Expressing confidence of India achieving 7.5% growth in the near term, Mr Modi said India can become a pillar of global growth and stability. <br/><br/>He announced plans of generating an additional capacity of 175 GW of renewable energy by 2022, cut in fuel subsidies and tax on coal and, National Clean Energy Fund of $3 billion to promote clean technologies. He pitched for fixing a target date before 2030 to reduce the high remittance charges.

G-20 Summit: PM Modi outlines India's plans to contribute to mitigate climate change

Prime Minister Narendra Mod? has joined World leaders in condemning terrorism and has outlined India's plans to contribute to mitigate climate change. Addressing the working lunch session on climate in the G-20 summit at Antalya in Turkey this afternoon, he said terrorism calls for a comprehensive global response and urged that combating it must be major priority for G-20. Referring to the PM's PM Jan Dhan Yojanas he said India has the world's largest financial inclusion programme. India has achieved a growth rate of nearly 7.5% with strong prospects for a higher growth rate in the near future. Mr Modi said and added that given its size and scale, India can become a pillar of global growth and stability.<br/><br/>Outlining India's plans on tackling climate changes he announced generating an additional capacity of 175 GW of renewable energy by 2022, proposals to cut subsidies on fossil fuel and tax on coal; and, National Clean Energy Fund of US$3 billion to promote clean technologies. Prime Minister Modi called for ensuring that finance and technology is available to meet the universal global aspiration for clean energy and asked to meet the target of US$100 billion goal per year by 2020. He also suggested G20 countries to increase the share of traffic on public transportation in cities by 30% by 2030.<br/><br/>Prime Minister Modi said a concrete outcome in the forthcoming Conference of Parties-21 meet in Paris. Mr Modi reminded the leaders that there are shortfalls in the efforts of the G-20 to fulfill its last year's commitment to raise our collective GDP by an additional 2% by 2018. He pitched for fixing a target date before 2030 to reduce the high costs of transferring remittances.
