G-20 countries agree to continue stimulus packages to overcome recession

Taking on board the concerns of India and other countries, leaders of the G-20 countries comprising the world’s major economies have decided to continue the stimulus package to quicken global economic recovery. The White House said in a statement that the leaders from the US, UK, France, China and others reached a historic agreement to put the group at the centre of their efforts to build a roadmap for durable recovery, avoiding the financial fragilities that led to the crisis. It said this decision brings to the table the countries needed to build a stronger, more balanced global economy, reform the financial system, and lift the lives of the poorest. The White House statement said dramatic changes in the world economy have not always been reflected in the global architecture for economic cooperation. US President Barack Obama hosted a dinner for the heads of government that included Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Dr.Singh and his wife, Gursharan Kaur, were warmly received by Obama and the First Lady, Mitchelle. The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh held discussions with the British Prime Minister Mr Gordon Brown .Meanwhile, Pittsburgh saw unprecedented security as the world leaders, who represent 85 per cent of the world’s GDP and two -thirds of humanity, arrived in the City of Bridges for the Summit. Police were out in larger numbers patrolling on bicycle, foot and horseback, by river and by air.On Thursday, police fired sound cannon and burst tear gas shells to stop a group of protesters marching towards the convention Centre. While some of them were demanding green jobs, others were protesting that G-20 leaders cannot determine trade policies for four to five billion people.
