G-15 summit meeting opens in Tehran on Monday

The G-15 summit meeting opens in the Iranian capital Tehran on Monday. Prior to the heads of state meeting, the G-15 foreign ministers met in Tehran on Saturday to lay the groundwork for the summit. Economic cooperation between G15 members, exploring new avenues for cooperation between the countries in the three continents, and a review of international developments are likely to dominate the summit meeting. Sri Lankan President Rajapaksa is due to take over from President Ahamedinejad the Chairmanship of the Group of 15. The G 15, which was established in 1989 as a community of the most successful Third World countries comprises 17 countries from Asia, Africa and Latin America. These are: Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kenya, Nigeria, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Venezuela and Zimbabwe.
