Funeral of LTTE Chief Prabhakaran's father on Sunday

The funeral of late Thiruvengadam Velupillai, father of LTTE leader Prabhakaran, is to take place at Valveddiththu'rai on Sunday according to Hindu rites.. The mortal remains of father of LTTE chief were handed over to the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian and one of the independent Presidential contenders K. Sivajilingam yesterday by the Sri Lankan authorities.<br/><br/>The body has been taken to Valveddiththu'rai in the Jaffna peninsula and kept at his daughter’s residence for the public to pay their last respects.<br/><br/>Thiruvengadam Velupillai breathed his last on Wednesday night . The 86 year old retired government servant’s birthday was on January 10th. The military found the aged parents of Prabhakaran on information provided by the war displaced civilians, in one of the government run camps in Vavuniya district in the last week of May. The parents of Prabhakaran were thereafter moved into protective custody of the government after their identities were established.<br/><br/>The custody of Vallipuram Parvathy , mother of LTTE leader Prabhakaran and Mrs. Erambu, the mother of their daughter-in-law Mathivathani, was also handed over to K. Sivajilingam. Both the aged women were driven by road from Colombo to the northern Jaffna Peninsula in an ambulance.<br/><br/>The release of Mrs. Parvathy comes a day after Prabhakaran's father, Thiruvengadam Vellupillai, died.
