Fully prepared to deal with food inflation, reasserts Centre

Government has reasserted that it is fully prepared to deal with food inflation. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Minister of State for Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Prof. K V Thomas said that government is also revamping Public Distribution System, PDS so that the poor and the vulnerable section of the society could be protected against the price rise.<br/><br/>The Minister said, there is enough buffer stock of wheat and rice to meet any such situation besides bumper production of food grains this year. Mr. Thomas said that government is continuously monitoring the situation.<br/><br/>He further informed that a meeting of the State Food Secretaries is being held on 21st and 22nd of this month in New Delhi to discuss the price situation and revamping the PDS.
