Full fledged test of Odd Even scheme in Delhi today after weekend

Delhi government is ready to face the real test of odd-even vehicle scheme today as more people will come out of their homes after celebrating New Year and extended weekend. As per the scheme, even number cars will ply today on Delhi roads from 8 in the morning to 8 in the evening. AIR correspondent reports, the scheme was launched on Friday to prevent vehicular pollution and will continue till 15th of this month on trial basis. <br/><br/>On a full-fledged working day, the Delhi government made elaborate arrangements to meet the real challenge . Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai said that arrangement of public transport have been made for 64 lakh people as against normal traffic load of 48 lakh per day. Additional buses will be pressed into service. 100 buses have been earmarked, which will be rushed to the spot where there is huge crowd. <br/><br/>For this the public will have to make a call on helpline number – 011-41400400. Delhi Metro will carry 20 per cent more passengers. Metro is expected to carry 32 lakh commuters against the previous data of 26 lakh daily. Additional teams of Delhi Police will be deployed at different traffic points to monitor implementation. Civil defence volunteers will be given mobile camera and hidden cameras to be used to track violators.
