Full EC in Patna to oversee poll preparedness in Bihar

The full election commission headed by Chief Election Commissioner S. Y. Quraishi is on Monday having discussions with representative of political parties in Patna to take feedback on the necessary steps to be taken to avoid poll malpractices during assembly elections in Bihar. Leaders of Congress, BJP, JDU, RJD, LJP, NCP, BSP, CPI and CPM have submitted their memoranda and apprised the commission of their demands. The two Election commissioners V.S. Sampath and H.S.Brahma are also participating in thisdiscussions. During the two day visit to the state, the Election Commission will take stock of the arrangements being made for the smooth conduct of six phase polls in Bihar. AIR Patna correspondent reports that this is the first visit of the full election commission to Bihar after dates for the Assembly elections were announced. Leaders of different political parties have requested the Chief Election Commissioner to ensure deployment of central para military forces at every booth during polling. Almost all the parties requested the Election Commission a ban on casting of votes by musclemen and convicted persons. After meeting with the political parties the Chief election Commissioner will hold discussions with the IGs, DIGs, District Magistrates, SPs of those areas where the first and second phase of elections are to be held. The commission will review election preparedness for third, fourth , fifth and sixth phase of elections on Tuesday. The Chief Election Commissioner will also hold a meeting with Chief secretary, Home Secretary and DGP of the state separately. The six phase poll for 243 seats begins from 21st of next month and concludes on 20th of November. Votes will be counted on November 24.
