Full EC in Kolkata to review preparedness for remaining phases of polls

The full Election Commission led by Chief Election Commissioner Mr. S.Y. Quraishi has arrived in Kolkatta to oversee the poll preparedness for last three phases of the Assembly Elections in West Bengal. After reaching the city, the Chief Election Commissioner and two other Commissioners Mr. V.S. Sampat and Mr. H.S. Brahma met the representatives of nine registered political parties. The bench of the Commission will meet the district administration of seven districts who are going for polls in the remaining three phases. The Commission will also meet the top brass of the State Administration in the afternoon. AIR correspondent reports that the Commission will take stock of the situation of the last three phases of polls during their visit to the State. The visit of the Commission in the State, amidst polling, is unprecedented. The Commission visited the State on 22nd of last month before announcement of the six phase elections. The visit of the Commission again, assumes significance as the State is going for elections in Maoist infested Purulia, Bankura and West Midnapore Districts in the 5th and 6th phase. Meanwhile, campaigning is on in full swing for the fourth phase of elections. This phase will take place in 63 seats covering Howrah, Hooghly, East Midnapore and parts of Burdwan districts on the 3rd of next month.
