Full customs duty exemption proposed for LCD, LED TV panels

The basic customs duty on wool waste and wool tops to come down from 15 per cent to 5 per cent. Excise duty on branded ready made garments to go up from 10 to 12 per cent. Full exemption from customs duty is proposed to be given to LCD, LED TV panels, parts of memory card for mobile phones, waster paper. Raw material used for manufacturing adult diapers to come down to 5 per cent.

The customs duty on bicycles to go up to 30 per cent from 10 per cent and bicycle parts from 10 per cent to 20 per cent to help the labour intensive industry. Excise duty on matches manufactured by semi-mechanized units to come down from 10 per cent to 6 per cent. To promote health and nutrition the budget proposes extension of 5 per cent concessional duty to six specified life-saving drugs and vaccines used for treating HIV Aids, renal cancer and other such diseases.

For checking protein deficiency and malnutrition soya concentrates and isolated soya protein will attract a lesser 10 per cent duty. Excise duty on all soya food products to be reduced to 6 per cent. Iodised salt will attract a concessional 2.5 per cent customs duty along with reduced excise duty of 6 per cent.
