FTII students' meeting with I&B officials fails to arrive at any concrete solution

A meeting between representatives of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry and FTII Students' Association (FSA) at Films Division's office in Mumbai, failed to arrive at any concrete solution to resolve the logjam. Representatives of FTII students while talking to reporters after the meeting said that the talks were inconclusive and another meeting is likely to take place on October 1.<br/>The agitating Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune students called off their 18-day-old "hunger strike" in response to the government's communication inviting them for talks with the government. Ranjit Nair, a representative of the FTII Students' Association (FSA), which is protesting against appointment of actor Gajendra Chauhan as the FTII Chairman, however clarified that although the relay hunger strike undertaken by the students in batches of three was being withdrawn, the general strike that started on June 12 with a boycott of classes will continue till the issues raised by them are resolved during the proposed talks.

The meeting was attended by I&B Joint Secretary Sanjay Murthi, Deputy Secretary Deepak Kumar, ADG Doordarshan and Films Division Mukesh Sharma and FTII Director Pashant Pathrabe.<br/><br/>The agitating Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune students called off their 18-day-old "hunger strike" in response to the government's communication inviting them for talks with the government.
