Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has extended the deadline for food companies to get a license to run their businesses by another three months. <br/><br/>In a notification, the food regulator has said that the time-line mentioned in the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011 has been extended to 4th of August, 2016. <br/><br/>The last date had ended on 4th of May.<br/>The decision to extend the time-line was taken following representations from various stakeholders, including food companies and industry associations in this regard. <br/><br/>As per the Food Safety and Standards Act, no person can commence or carry on any food business without a licence.<br/>There are about 3 crore food business operators in the country out of which 37 lakh are registered with the food regulator.

FSSAI extends last date of registration for food companies
