In Uttar Pradesh, a fresh petition has been filed on Wednesday in the Allahabad High Court challenging acquisition of 230 hectares of land falling in the village of the Chief Minister Mayawati in Gautam Buddha Nagar district. The petitioners have alleged that land was acquired in the year 2008 in a discriminatory manner exempting the plots belonging to influential land-owners. Altogether 50 farmers from Badalpur village in Gautam Buddha Nagar district have filed their petitions. They have challenged the acquisition of 230 hectares falling in the village by the state government. Petitioners have alleged that the state government had acquired the land by invoking the urgency clause that the land was needed for industrial development of the area.AIR correspondent reports that division bench of the Allahabad High Court had adjourned the hearing of cases on land acquisition till 17 August. The court has said the farmers who had moved the court that nobody would be spared for the irresponsible process of land acquisition. The court has referred the matter to a larger bench. The Allahabad High Court has given the Uttar Pradesh government and farmers time till August 12 to negotiate and resolve their dispute over compensation for land acquired in NOIDA Extension villages. The court has also rejected a plea by the builders to be made a party to the case. The acquisition of nearly 2,500 hectares of land in different villages in NOIDA Extension and Greater NOIDA has already been challenged in court on the ground that the state government took away the land forcibly denying farmers an opportunity to raise objections or negotiate suitable compensation rates.
