The remote north district of Sikkim is badly affected due to fresh landslides in the area. The three landslides occurred between Chugthang-Lachen and Lachung have washed away road at certain places disrupting the main highway connecting north Sikkim to the state capital Gangtok. Round the clock work is on to clear the road . Our correspondent reports that heavy rain continues to trouble even south Sikkim as numerous landslides and uprooting of trees are being reported from various parts of the district. The heavy downpour uprooted some trees besides disrupting the power and water supply in some villages which has been restored now. The people living in vulnerable areas are scared of this continuous rain and are feeling unsafe. No casualty or loss of lives due to the rain has been reported so far from any part of the state. The state government asked its road department to ensure deployment of sufficient road workers avoiding any blockade on important routes connecting all four districts in state.The state administration has also informed about the sufficient storage of food grains, keroson and other essential goods to meet any emergency situation.
